Social class refers to a group of people with similar levels of wealth, influence, and status. Sociologists typically use three methods to determine social class:
The objective method measures and analyzes “hard” facts.

The subjective method asks people what they think of themselves.

The reputational method asks what people think of others.

Results from these three research methods suggests that in the United States today approximately 15 to 20 percent are in the poor, lower class; 30 to 40 percent are in the working class; 40 to 50 percent are in the middle class.
The lower class
The lower class is typified by poverty, homelessness, and unemployment. People of this class, few of whom have finished high school, suffer from lack of medical care, adequate housing and food, decent clothing, safety, and vocational training.

The working class
The working class are those minimally educated people who engage in “manual labor” with little or no prestige. Unskilled workers in the class—dishwashers, cashiers, maids, and waitresses—usually are underpaid and have no opportunity for career advancement. They are often called the working poor. Skilled workers in this class—carpenters, plumbers, and electricians—are often called blue collar workers.
The middle class
The middle class are the “sandwich” class. These white collar workershave more money than those below them on the “social ladder,” but less than those above them. They divide into two levels according to wealth, education, and prestige. The lower middle class is often made up of less educated people with lower incomes, such as managers, small business owners, teachers, and secretaries. The upper middle class is often made up of highly educated business and professional people with high incomes, such as doctors, lawyers, stockbrokers, and CEOs.


The Target of Working class Power.
The working class needs to know the enemy who is working against them. In order for them to assert their interests, the working class has to challenge the demand the capitalist makes. The capitalist has always been a common enemy in society. They have increased their power within the government that leads them to have a more direct control over the working class.
Corporate America is trying to bring workers and managers together through Labor management-cooperation. This idea was taken from the Japanese labor practice when many American leaders saw Japan as a “Model of economic success” (working class, 116). Labor management cooperation is the opposite to capitalism. This system sees workers as people who have interest in the welfare of the company.
“Class allows us to recall the language of economic and social justice and to revive calls for economic democracy that have been the foundation of progressive social movements for over a hundred years. The corporate agenda has stripped all reference to morality from economic affairs. For the right, unrestricted markets are all that is relevant in economic matters. This is a core question that progressives must address directly. Class understanding will help us to illuminate and ground the ethical dimensions of our politics and help us imagine and create organizations, coalitions, and social forces capable of turning back the destructive power of capital and replacing it with values and policies that relieve human suffering and promote the social good.”

Power needs a target. Effective power needs an appropriate target. One consequence of class analysis based on power is that it suggests the target for working class power is the capitalist class, not “the rich.” Looking back at the 20th century history of United States, almost every progressive social change has come over the objections of the capitalist class and has involved limiting the capitalists’ power.
“When the working class disappears into the middle class, workers lose a vital piece of their identity…they don’t know who they are anymore. To make matters worse, they also lose a sense of the enemy…. As the capitalist class disappears from view, the target of struggle disappears too.” the main social division turns on who wields the power and authority over the workplace.
“Class has its foundation in power relations at work” but those relations also pervade society at large, taking the form of “cultural and political power.” That pervasive power has allowed the corporate class to carry out its successful assault on workers’ living standards, forcing more and more families into the job market in an attempt to keep up.
Relations of social classes is necessary “to get to the bottom of what’s ailing us.” That’s so workers can “build the social movements needed to make a life better for working people. Because class is a question of power, understanding class can add to the power of working people.”
Class, is not about lifestyle, status, or even income. Class is about the ownership of society’s productive edifice and the multifaceted power over others that such ownership commands. Put another way, class is about not having the “power to determine and control the processes that go on in the factory and the bank, and beyond that, power in the larger society, especially political power.”
The importance of equal rights in workers and how in order for something to become great, people need to work together and not compete with one another. The chapter expresses the idea that people should get equal pay for equal work,
“During the Depression, political leaders widely believed that economic recovery required increased purchasing power among working people. Collective bargaining was seen as the vehicle through which workers could win higher wages, and a defense of unions against management attacks came to be an accepted part of the strategy for national economic recovery.”
The working class needs to have independent organizations to be able to wield any power for the working class. Unions served the workers well 20-50 years ago. They fought for and won many legitimate concessions from the “Capitalists” at the time. Much of organized labors efforts has resulted in a lot of legislation designed to ensure workers rights.
The argument of adequate pay is a difficult issue. If you pay relatively unskilled workers a high wage then those that are technically skilled or professionals will demand more. This will start a circle of inflation that will be tough to control. This truly is a balancing act, trying to compensate all workers appropriately.
Over the last several decades unions have been found to be corrupt and more concerned with their own pocketbooks, they have turned into the capitalist businesses that they are supposedly fighting against. Forgetting about what they were supposed to be doing for the “workers”. The unions have done the best that they can and have been successful in the past. If a new labor organization is to be formed the “Workers” need to lead this, not someone who has not done the “hard work” their supposed to be protecting. The current union leadership tries to exert too much of their own personal beliefs instead of really understanding what the “workers” want.

Floating Nation Party (FNP) claim their own statement based the book of Michael Zweig “The Working Class Majority” examining the fake claimer who give illegal voice in the whole voter at this hipnotic age;
‘Political conflict demands challenge to pushing interest of movement in the Progressive Era to control corporate actions before depression cause restriction that created complicated regulations.
Improvement in efficiency and quality implemented the techniques in wide variety of industries. A good example that goverment agency was responsible to facilitating with expertise for unions and managements seeking ways to cooperated.
Assertion of moral enhancement was the fact that worker’s right do have an ethical, which worker’s demand put limit of mutual responsibility. Union will need to recapture the moral high ground,  where workers needs to be manifest as well in particular part of society influencing one to another.
Worker participation in all aspects was operating bussiness in the context of the entire market. The Logic of Corporate Survival tends to draw workers incomplete at best in competitive presure.
The moral foundation of working class power are respect for mutual aidand the recognition of social relationships tune with the reality of people’s interconnected lives, more respectful of the limits of individualism without denying individuality.’

Sexy Gossip Exotic Taste

Gossip-based protocols for group communication have attractive scalability and reliability properties. The probabilistic gossip schemes studied so far typically assume that each group member has full knowledge of the global membership and chooses gossip targets uniformly at random. The requirement of global knowledge impairs their applicability to very large-scale groups. 



GOSSIP BASED RELIABLE MULTICAST PROTOCOL

The essential requirement in MANET is now group communication or multicasting since it is used in applications such as network news dissemination, collaborative computing, disaster relief operation, sensor network, military services. In this type of application reliability  plays an important role. Designing a reliable multicast protocol in MANET is challenging task due to the dynamic topology, limited bandwidth, constraints of node capability, and frequent disconnections in MANET. 



In this paper, we propose a scheme called Congestion Control Anonymous Gossip(CCAG) to improve the reliable packet delivery of multicast routing protocols and decrease the variation in the number of packets received by the different nodes. It also consider the issues of reliability, low end to end delay, control overhead and packet delivery in mobile ad-hoc networks. The propose scheme works in two phases. In the first phase any suitable  protocol is used to multicast the message to the group, while in second phase, the gossip protocol tries to recover lost messages.



An adhoc network is a dynamically reconfigurable wireless network without any fixed infrastructure. Such type of network have several resource constraints like bandwidth, battery power, and demands like latency and other types of QoS, reliability and security etc. This type of network is specifically useful in situations like military and disaster relief operation etc. In such an application multicast is a natural requirement. The transmission of packets to a group of zero or more hosts identified by a single destination address is called multicasting . Large number of multicast protocols are available in adhoc network like MAODV , ODMRP , MCEDAR  etc. but this protocol does not provide reliability guarantees due to
  1.        ..Mobility and congestion.
  2.        ..Transient partition.
  3.        ..Maintenance of multicast structure.

In a wired network the basic technique used for recovering the lost messages are
  1.        ..Flooding
  2.        ..Gossip

In flooding any node that receives the packet retransmits to its entire neighbor hence routing messages are propagated unnecessary and hence congestion in the network increases.


The Graph Sampling Problem
·         We focus on sampling peer properties , such as number of neighbors (degree), access link bandwidth, session time, # files
·         Sampling peer properties has two steps:
o   Discovering and selecting peers (or samples)
o   Measuring the desired properties of selected peers
·         Selecting peers uniformly at random is hard –  there are two sources of bias [Stutzbach:IMC06]
        Topological: high-degree peers are more likely to be selected
        Temporal: short-lived peers are more likely to be selected
·         Random walks are a promising approach to sampling
 – The resulting bias is precisely known
 – Samples can be collected in parallel by multiple walkers.



Expressing these ideas in more technical terms, a gossip protocol is one that satisfies the following conditions:
  • ·         The core of the protocol involves periodic, pairwise, inter-process interactions
  • ·         The information exchanged during these interactions is of (small) bounded size
  • ·      When agents interact, the state of one or both changes in a way that reflects the state of the other. For example, if A pings B just to measure the round-trip time for messages from A to B and back, it isn’t a gossip interaction.
  • ·         Reliable communication is not assumed
  • ·         The frequency of the interactions is low compared to typical message latencies, so that the protocol costs are negligible
  • ·         There is some form of randomness in the peer selection. Peer selection might occur within the full node set, or might be performed in a smaller set of neighbors.

Suppose that we want to find the object that most closely matches some search pattern, within a network of unknown size, but where the computers are linked to one-another and where each machine is running a small agent program that implements a gossip protocol.
  • To start the search, a user would ask the local agent to begin to gossip about the search string. (We're assuming that agents either start with a known list of peers, or retrieve this information from some kind of a shared web site.)
  • Periodically, at some rate (let's say ten times per second, for simplicity), each agent picks some other agent at random, and gossips with it. Search strings known to A will now also be known to B, and vice versa. In the next "round" of gossip A and B will pick additional random peers, maybe C and D. This round-by-round doubling phenomenon makes the protocol very robust, even if some messages get lost, or some of the selected peers are the same or already know about the search string.
  • On receipt of a search string for the first time, each agent checks its local machine for matching documents.
  • Agents also gossip about the best match, to date. Thus, if A gossips with B, after the interaction, A will know of the best matches known to B, and vice versa. Best matches will "spread" through the network.





If the messages might get large (for example, if many searches are active all at the same time), a size limit should be introduced. Also, searches should "age out" of the network.
It should be easy to see that within logarithmic time in the size of the network (the number of agents), any new search string will have reached all agents. Within an additional delay of the same approximate length, every agent will learn where the best match can be found. In particular, the agent that started the search will have found the best match.

For example, in a network with 25,000 machines, we can find the best match after about 30 rounds of gossip: 15 to spread the search string and 15 more to discover the best match. A gossip exchange could occur as often as once every tenth of a second without imposing undue load, hence this form of network search could search a big data center in about 3 seconds.


Gossip protocols can be used to propagate information in a manner rather similar to the way that a viral infection spreads in a biological population. Indeed, the mathematics of epidemics are often used to model the mathematics of gossip communication. The term epidemic algorithm is sometimes employed when describing a software system in which this kind of gossip-based information propagation is employed.

The Front office or reception is an area where visitors arrive and first encounter a staff at a place of business. Front office staff will deal with whatever question the visitor has, and put them in contact with a relevant person at the company. Broadly speaking, the front office includes roles that affect the right side (revenues) of trading statement of the business. The term front office is in contrast to the term "back office" which refers to a company's operations, personnel, accounting, payroll and financial departments which do not interact directly with customers.
The front office receives information about the customers and will then pass this on to the relevant department within the company. The front office can also contact the marketing and/or sales department should the customers have questions. The company needs to give training to the front office manager as this position will come in contact with customers the most.


The most common work for the front office staff will be to get in touch with customers and help out internally in the office. Staff working at the front office can also deal with simple tasks, such as printing and typing tasks and sorting emails. Although front office staff might only need to perform tasks such as answering the phone, using the printer and fax machine, training is still needed on these tasks.


Front office is related to a service delivery system, where employees engage with customers. It uses the parameter of labor intensity to figure out the distinctive characteristics of a service.

Ratings point is a measure of viewership of a particular television programme.
One single television ratings point (Rtg or TVR) represents 1% of television households in the surveyed area in a given minute. As of 2004, there are an estimated 109.6 million television households in the United States. Thus, a single national ratings point represents 1%, or 1,096,000 television households for the 2004–05 season. When used for the broadcast of a program, the average rating across the duration of the show is typically given. Ratings points are often used for specific demographics rather than just households. For example a ratings point among the key 18- to 49-year-olds demographic is equivalent to 1% of all 18- to 49-year-olds in the country.
A Rtg/TVR is different from a share point in that it is the percentage of all possible households, while a share point is 1% of all households watching television at the time. Hence the share of a broadcast is often significantly higher than the rating, especially at times when overall TV viewing is low. A low TRP can have an adverse effect on a TV program eventually leading to its closure.



Gross rating points (GRPs) or target rating points (TRPs) are chiefly used to measure the performance of TV-based advertising campaigns, and are the sum of the TVRs of each commercial spot within the campaign. An ad campaign might require a certain number of GRPs among a particular demographic across the duration of the campaign. The GRP of a campaign is equal to the percentage of people who saw, multiplied by the average number of spots that these viewers saw. Targeted Rating Points are a refinement of GRPs to express the reach time frequency of only the most likely prospects. For example, if a campaign buys 150 GRPs for a television spot, but only half of that audience is actually in the market for the campaign's product, then the TRP would be stated as 75 to calculate the net effective buy .
Gross rating point, a standard measure in advertising, it measures advertising impact. It is a percent of the target market reached multiplied by the exposure frequency. Thus, a program which advertises to 30% of the target market and gives them 4 exposures, will have 120 GRP.
GRPs as a measure has some limitations. People like to think of it as a measure of impact, but that is really overstated. Impact should measure sales; this measures exposures, which is in fact assumed not actual exposures.
  • Basics of TAM (television advertising measurement):
Universe: Universe is the total or actual number of people in a defined target audience.
Reach: Reach is the number of individuals from the universe who are exposed to the medium or vehicle.
Reach is normally expressed in terms of % (percentages)
  • Calculation of reach:
If universe is: 1,000,000 individuals (this is approx. data, it is usually defined through sampling through people-meter):


For a single episode of a program (30 minutes or 1 hour) If out of above 1,000,000 of individuals 600,000 saw at least 1 minute of programme then:
Reach = (600,000/1,000,000) x 100
Reach = 60%

  • What is a TVR (television rating point):

  • CPRP
Measurement used in planning a television media buy based on the cost of a commercial time slot and the rating of the program where the time slot is positioned. If, for example, the cost of a commercial time slot during prime time was $1000 and the program rating for that time was 10 (which means that 10% of the total potential audience was tuned to that program), then the cost per GRP would be $1000 divided by 10%, or $100. The CPGRP measurement is a way of measuring the efficiency of media cost, as compared to measuring the cost per thousand (CPT) and is generally used when making comparisons of the various broadcast vehicles. When the actual buy is made, the advertiser will still want to know the cost of reaching people on a cost-per-thousand basis.

In advertising, the effective frequency is the number of times a person must be exposed to an advertising message before a response is made and before exposure is considered wasteful.
The subject on effective frequency is quite controversial. Many people have their own definition on what this word means. There are also numerous studies with their own theories or models as to what the correct number is for effective frequency.


Television rating point for calculation purposes is a device is attached to the TV set in a few thousand viewers' houses for judging purpose. These numbers are treated as a sample from the overall TV owners in different geographical and demographic sectors. The device is called a People meter. It records the time and the programme that a viewer watches on a particular day. Then, the average is taken for a 30-day period, which gives the viewership status for a particular channel.
